Speaker 0 00:00:03 Welcome to the doctor's week show where I show you how bad States of mind, difficult life issues. Aren't pathological, but rather signs of personal growth trying to happen. All right, let's get into it. Hey, people welcome to the show today. Speaker 1 00:00:31 Yeah. I've got an exercise for you to help you deal with the awful feeling of envy. Some folks use the word jealousy for this feeling, but either way, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Don't do these exercises while you're driving, operating machinery or doing anything that requires your attention. All right, now there's already enough pain in the world to deal with. But recently in the last, whatever, five years, there's been another issue that people have to deal with, which is that every day there's another famous Instagram model or popular YouTube or Tik talker or public figure, who seems to have it all. If you didn't already have some kind of complex that you're not good enough. Well, now you do the constant barrage of images of success and perfection can make you feel depressed and resentful that you don't possess what these lucky folks seem to have. Speaker 1 00:01:37 But what if your envy of these people, isn't just a negative, painful feeling you have to deal with. What if it's actually a meaningful process that can show you the path to enlightenment? Hmm. Well, before I show you how to connect with this in yourself, I should say a word about the folks you're envious of. I've worked with many super successful people whose lives look great from the outside, but aren't always that way on the inside, they suffer from the same problems. Everyone does. Their issues may appear to be different from yours, but at the core they're the same envy is a fascinating phenomenon because the people you're envious of for their wealth, popularity, success, body relationship, or whatever don't necessarily feel like you think they do. They may act and talk a certain way, but that says nothing about what's really going on in their lives. Speaker 1 00:02:45 I'm often surprised to discover how my super successful clients actually experience life. It can be very different from the persona. They present to the world, especially on social media. In this exercise, you're going to embody the ideals, you project onto someone and use them for your personal growth. In fact, you're going to discover how the person you're envious of is actually you, you don't need a million dollars or a thin body to experience what you're after. I mean become a skinny millionaire if you want, but that's not the point. The point is that you can use your envy of people to expand your self awareness and develop your personal power. You can use it to help you begin living these awesome parts of yourself. Okay? Now, each one of you is totally unique in how you process things. So at each step of the exercise to turn the podcast on and off, Speaker 2 00:03:51 Whoever you need, think of someone you envy and identify exactly what you're envious of. Is it a personality trait, a talent, success, luck, intelligence, a relationship they have, or maybe it's something superficial like how she looks or his popularity. Now here's the fun part. I want you to become this person. Begin by visualizing what he or she looks like, observe how they act, speak, move, talk, and dress. Take your time and get a solid visual of this person. Let your imagination create a vivid picture in your mind and take a good look. <inaudible> Speaker 3 00:06:15 I feel what it would be like to be this person. Imagine you really are him or her. Feel it in your whole body, in your whole being Speaker 2 00:06:29 <inaudible> Speaker 3 00:07:12 Listen to his or her voice. What's it sound like, listen to its pitch, tone, tempo, and volume, then experiment with speaking like this person. Don't worry if you actually sound like him or her, just imagine that you do. And it doesn't matter what you say. Just get the feeling of speaking like this person. Speaker 2 00:07:37 <inaudible> Speaker 3 00:08:18 Now stand up and walk around the room. Like he or she walks, embody their posture, strides, Kate and gestures. Pretend you are this person. Go ahead and turn off the podcast for a minute and do this and turn it on again. When you're, Speaker 2 00:08:54 <inaudible> Speaker 3 00:09:21 Now replace your mind with this. Person's mind think like he or she does. How does their mind work? Is it methodical, logical and rational, or is it intuitive and fluid? Maybe it's quick thinking creative and decisive or perhaps their mind is just calm still in Zen life. Speaker 2 00:09:47 <inaudible> Speaker 3 00:10:30 Imagine that instead of you play acting someone, this is actually you embody these great qualities, but in a way that reflects who you are, not necessarily who that person is own. These qualities as yours, they belong to you. Use your imagination and feeling sense to experiment with these qualities as a way of being you can actually live. It's okay. If it feels awkward at first is just an initial baby step toward owning these parts of yourself. Speaker 2 00:11:10 <inaudible> Speaker 3 00:11:52 Think about how you can apply this way of being to your home. Speaker 2 00:11:59 Here's some Speaker 3 00:11:59 Questions to help you do this. What kinds of new powers does this part of you bring up, Could this way of being help you with a problem you're currently, Could you be more like this in your inner life, your relationships, Speaker 2 00:13:40 Your work and your spirituality. Speaker 3 00:14:23 Why don't you already embody this way of being, what stops you? Speaker 2 00:14:30 Is it an inner critic? Fear of what people think of you? A belief system, Speaker 3 00:14:43 A mistaken notion that you can't be this way, unless you have specific things like money or a thin body. If you want to get past this block, you can revisit episodes 12, 14, 18, or 20. They all give you ways to deal with feeling blocked, create work. You've just learned how to transform envy into personal growth. You did this by visualizing feeling, listening, to thinking and moving, just like the person you're envious of making these qualities your own, and then applying them to your life. Take as much time as you need to absorb what you just did. If you feel like hearing some bonus material where I share some of my client's experiences doing this exercise, that's up next here. Speaker 1 00:16:32 Some of my clients experiences doing this exercise a 24 year old to pressed unemployed, man envied, his friend who had started his own business. When he play acted and explored being the friend, he got in touch with his own confidence and was eventually able to make the leap to start his own business too. This helped him relieve his depression, a 38 year old overweight woman, envied women who are thin when she play acted a thin woman, she imagined she could fly. We explored her fantasy of flying and she looked down at herself. What she saw surprised her. She saw that she's a strong woman who wasn't using her strength, which resulted in allowing herself to be bullied by society's ideas of how she should look. This realization gave her a new attitude to believe in herself. Paradoxically, this also led to her, starting to diet and work out, not satisfy society's demands, but because feeling better about herself made her actually feel like getting in shape a 52 year old man who described himself as lazy envied, his friend who worked hard and earned more money than he did when he play acted, the friend he connected with a more disciplined and focused part of himself. Speaker 1 00:18:17 He began putting his own disciplined energy into new ways to make money. And he also started attending to all the things in his life. He'd been neglecting, spending time with his wife, cleaning his workshop and even mowing the lawn. See you next time, stay aware.
